NNDC has developed a number of programmes and initiatives, which seek to develop the partnerships and co-ordinated, strategic thinking so vital to delivering balanced and sustainable communities.
A considerable amount of work has been undertaken to construct a Spatial Investment Strategy, which will define not only how the key infrastructure required by the Core Spatial Strategy is funded but also the timing and phasing of development.
Resources have been earmarked for strategic project support to enable initial feasibility work on projects within the approved programme to be carried out. This will assist in preparing funding bids by bringing in the necessary professional and technical expertise at an early stage in project development.
NNDC has been involved with a unique pilot project undertaken by the leading consultants EDAW. In considering how developer contributions can be used to fund infrastructure, EDAW has investigated the idea of a tariff approach for both North and West Northamptonshire, in line with current Government proposals for a national Planning Gain Supplement.

Working closely with our partners, NNDC has also progressed a number of studies and programmes aimed at improving educational skills and training opportunities across the sub-region. A skills audit will be completed early in the new business year, which will provide recommendations on the skills' issues that need to be tackled to ensure employment growth.
In conjunction with Bee Bee Developments Ltd, Northamptonshire County Council and the University of Northampton, NNDC has also sponsored work on creating a business plan to deliver an Education, Learning and Skills Vision for the area.
With major housing development set to play a major part in the future of North Northamptonshire, we have started work with the Learning and Skills Council, further education and private sector partners on maximizing construction-related employment and training opportunities. The North Northamptonshire Construction Training Initiative will provide a five-year plan to ensure local people are actively employed in fulfilling the area's growth ambitions.
