In terms of potential, there can be few regions in the UK to match North Northamptonshire. Identified as a growth area by the Government in 2001, there are plans for 52,100 new homes by 2021.
The answer to where this many homes will be built became much clearer on 12 February 2007, when the North Northamptonshire Joint Planning Unit published its masterplan, the North Northamptonshire Core Spatial Strategy. This important document identifies where the new houses will go and the policies that will ensure they form sustainable communities' not mere housing estates.
It also sends out a clear signal to developers where there is potential for future growth across the region and will be invaluable to the work of NNDC in co-ordinating and driving forward the delivery of the infrastructure North Northamptonshire needs to bring this growth forward.
| Over the last 12 months, the region's housing market has continued to boom with nearly 2,100 homes sold between July and September 2006 alone and the average house price for the region is now £161,930, an 82 per cent increase on 2001 figures.
In terms of new housing, the region is on track to meet its target of 2,225 new homes per annum. An influx of town centre investment together with population expansion has enabled Corby to make a significant contribution. In 2006, approximately 480 homes were built and NNDC expects 700 more starts in 2007. |
