Louise Bagshawe, MP for Corby and East Northants will be carrying out the ‘topping off’ of Tresham College of Further and Higher Education’s brand new £36 million campus in Corby at Oakley Road, Corby, NN18 8AN on Friday 1st October at 11am followed by a tour of the new building and facilities.
The new campus goes ahead with funding support provided by the Skills Funding Agency (previously the Learning and Skills Council (LSC)), the Homes and Communities Agency (relating to the sale of the existing George Street campus), Barclays Bank as well as using Tresham’s own resources. Tresham was named as only one of 12 colleges throughout the UK to have been awarded funding for its new buildings after the LSC reviewed its funding allocations in 2009.
Tresham’s construction partners are BAM Construction, a company experienced in developing educational sites to ensure that the building process is carried out effectively.
The new building has been designed by Bond Bryan to compliment Tresham’s long history of providing high skills based quality courses, and to introduce a number of other course areas into the town including Sport, Health Care and Child Education, Business and Uniformed Public Services as well as an increase in its Higher Education offer.
Tresham has worked in collaboration with current staff, students at the college and held consultations with the local community to ensure that the new site, formerly used by Corby Community College, will be suitable for all stakeholders.
Principal of Tresham College of Further and Higher Education, Mark Silverman, said:
“The topping off ceremony for our new Corby campus marks the completion of another step towards our fantastic new building in the town. The new building will offer a stimulating, modern environment for our students to learn within. The new campus will help to realise Tresham’s ambitions to be an outstanding learning provider and to transform lives in Corby and north Northamptonshire.”
Louise Bagshawe MP for Corby and East Northamptonshire said:
“It is a real privilege to be part of the topping out ceremony for the wonderful new Tresham campus in Corby. Like everyone else in the town I have watched eagerly as the development has gone up and the ceremony will mark a further step towards its completion. Corby continues to grow and regenerate at an exciting rate; the new Tresham campus is a major part of that process and will mean that local people are given the opportunity to obtain higher education qualifications at a first rate college here in Corby.”
Cllr Andrew Grant, Northamptonshire County Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, said:
“This is a much-needed and exciting development in the north of our county that will further help in improving education standards in Northamptonshire.
We are committed to ensuring that children and young people in Northamptonshire are given as many opportunities in life as possible and I believe this new campus can play a key role in doing so.”
Leader of Corby Borough Council, Pat Fawcett, said:
“I am delighted that we are again able to celebrate a significant step in a part of Corby's ongoing regeneration. This topping out ceremony marks the dedication that partners have in Corby's future and as we watch another top quality investment in education begin to take shape we should be very proud of what we are achieving.
'Not only is Tresham providing jobs, but the facility, once completed, will be giving the people of Corby positive opportunities through further education and training.”
Simon Evans, Chief Executive of North Northants Development Company, said:
“It is very encouraging to see such important projects as Tresham’s new Corby campus remain on track despite the most challenging economic conditions.
Alongside the soon to be opened Corby Cube and Corby Enterprise Centre, the new campus is a further demonstration of what effective partnership working can achieve. It represents a major investment in the future of the town centre and will be a modern training facility that local people can be proud of.”
