Market Place Restaurant Start to Take Shape

24 September 2010

This week, the new Market Place Restaurants began to take shape and rise out of the ground with the installation of the lift shaft and commencement of the steel outer frame.

Whilst the last 5 months have been spent excavating the basement car park and preparing footings for the new buildings, the steelwork will take less than a month to complete and the buildings will soon start to become recognisable. The concrete pre-fabricated lift shaft was erected on Wednesday 15th September with the Steelwork commencing the day after. It is expected that the roof will be put on top of the building just before Christmas, but works will not be due for completion until the summer / autumn next year.

The Market Place project has been paid for using money secured from Central Government and has been delivered in partnership with Northamptonshire County Council and North Northants Development Company. Kettering Borough Council is working with partners to attract investment into the borough in order to provide a better retail, education and living offer for everyone living in the borough.

Paul Thomas, project manager at Kettering Borough Council said: “It is really exciting to see the building starting to take shape. We have taken extra special care in the design to ensure the finished building will complement the surrounding buildings and public space. The Market Place is going to be an even better place to be when this building is complete”

Councillor Mark Dearing, Portfolio Holder for Retail and Business said: “It’s great to see the new buildings rise above the ground. I’m looking forward to watching them progress over the next few months, completing the award winning Market Place.”
