A key part of economic expansion plans for Wellingborough is a mixed use development centred on the railway station, which incorporates the expansion and upgrading of the station to serve as a major transport interchange for the area.
Development proposals for the Public Transport Interchange include:
- a new plaza area on the west of the railway line
- a new station plaza on the east of the railway line and
- a new pedestrian footbridge linking the existing station buildings on the western side of the railway line with the proposed plaza on the eastern side
