Improvement works to Sheep Street will help provide an appropriate setting for important buildings such as the Library, Art Gallery, Museum and Market Place Restaurants. The improvements will bring the Restaurant Quarter together and complement the new Market Place and Restaurant Buildings due for completion in Autumn 2011.
Sheep Street will remain open for vehicle access, but not to through traffic. An improved appearance will complement the Market Place and will be more pedestrian friendly. Quality materials will be used and improved lighting installed.
Taxi ranks will be relocated to outside the George Hotel. New bus stops will be located at the top of Station Road and Northampton Road to support new bus routes serving the train station and west of the town. These will also provide a regular hop on, hop off service to and from Horsemarket. Additional parking will be provided including disabled parking bays.
