The creation of a Cultural Quarter within the town, which will be centred on the Castle Theatre and Wellingborough Museum, is one of the key proposals from the Town Centre Area Action Plan.
With the ambition of enhancing the quality and diversity of the town centre’s cultural and leisure offer, significant enhancements to civic buildings and facilities are being explored.
These include:
- a new signature building incorporating an Ideas Store or Discovery Centre, combined with state-of-the-art library facilities, other IT, arts and community activities
- a dedicated space for public art
- new leisure, entertainment and cultural buildings fronting onto Swanspool Brook
- landscaping of open spaces and improved pedestrian links to the town’s main shopping area
