Key to the regeneration of Wellingborough is the significant redevelopment of the Market Square area.
To reinforce its status as the heart of the town centre, substantial improvements will be made to public areas with high quality new developments and revamped existing buildings providing opportunities to live, shop and enjoy leisure time in this area.
The comprehensive plans include:
- a landmark retail anchor store
- a re-landscaped Market Square, pedestrian and cycle network
- new restaurants, cafes, bars and shops within approximately 18,000sqm of net additional retail floorspace
- approximately 230 new residential dwellings
- a landmark Ideas Store or Discovery Centre, replacing the existing library
- a new 500 space multi-storey car park
Work on this project is due to start in 2013/14.
