Corby East Midlands International Pool

Alongside the Corby Cube civic hub, the new Corby East Midlands International Pool is the key element of the Parkland Gateway regeneration scheme - identified in Corby’s Regeneration Framework (launched in 2003) as the flagship project that would transform the civic heart of the town.

Since it opened in July 2009, up to 2,000 people a day have been visiting the new £20m pool, which has provided the residents of Corby with greater opportunities to take part in a range of sporting and leisure activities.

Already included in both the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics Training Camp Guides, this first-class facility includes a training pool, fun pool with flume, 70 station gym, dance facilities and health suite. The building has been designed in consultation with a number of local groups and includes the Borough’s first public Changing Place which significantly exceeds the Disability Discrimination Act requirements. Having access to a Changing Place will benefit approximately 34,000 people in the region.

The impact of the new pool can be seen in the new national ‘Free Swim Campaign’. In the first 4 weeks of opening 3,500 local residents had signed up for the scheme. Of those residents paying membership, over 1,100 members had been signed up from a total of 1,700 expected once the membership is full. The region’s only 50 metre pool, the building has been designed to be sustainable and will gain the BREEAM Very Good standard.
